yoga audio

As an avid yogi for over a decade now, I’ve tested out countless yoga audio recordings, downloads, and apps to supplement my studio classes. Having instructor guidance at home has been invaluable for building strength, consistency, and confidence in my solo practice. Since so many of you ask about where to find quality yoga audio resources, I wanted to share my top recommendations to take your practice to the next level!

Down Dog App

Down Dog is by far my favorite yoga app and the one I’ve used for years now. I love how you can customize your practice by selecting the style, duration, focus, voice, and music to suit your needs that day. They offer everything from 7-minute sequences for busy mornings to 90-minute power yoga classes.

I often use Down Dog on work trips to squeeze in a quick vinyasa or restorative flow in my hotel room. I appreciate that their audio guides always provide excellent reminders on form, breathing, and when to ease off if something doesn’t feel right in your body. Their voices are soothing without being dull.

Alo Moves App

For more inspiration, I adore the Alo Moves app. Alo has fresh daily class videos added with top instructors in fun locations, almost like you’re practicing alongside them. For audio-only, you can filter for audio classes or just listen to the teacher’s guidance over the video.

Their audio focus flows, like hip openers or core classes, are fantastic. They also have great meditation and breathing exercises. Alo has a positive, inclusive vibe with some peppier music. I find practicing with their audio always lifts my mood and energizes me.

Peloton App

The Peloton app offers thousands of instructor-led audio cycling, strength, cardio, and yoga classes. Their yoga instructors provide detailed alignment cues and form corrections as you flow. For cross-training, I’ll stack a 20-minute yoga class with a core or upper body workout, which is super convenient to do back-to-back.

Peloton tracks your activity so you can see your progress over time. The app is very user-friendly. I also love being able to filter for 10, 20, 30, 45, or 60-minute yoga sessions based on how much time I have. The music and production quality is top-notch.

Calm App

When I want a more gentle, meditative practice, the Calm app is wonderful. They have options ranging from 5-minute stretches to 45-minute mindfulness-based vinyasas that leave me feeling centered and at peace. I often turn to Calm’s restorative audio practices after intense workouts when my body needs some TLC.

Calm also offers fantastic guided meditations, sleep stories, and breathing exercises to reduce anxiety. I love putting on their sleep meditations when I’m tossing and turning. Starting the day with one of their morning mindfulness sessions is uplifting too.

Insight Timer

As a free app, Insight Timer still has an impressive library of audio classes from yoga teachers worldwide. I like their varied time options, from 10-minute energizing flows to one-hour-long instructive sessions. They feature great yin, meditation-based, and yoga nidra classes.

One unique aspect is their live classes which you can join and practice alongside others in real time. I also enjoy their music, which varies from tranquil, atmospheric tunes to more upbeat tracks, depending on the class style. Insight Timer has something for any mood or time constraint.

Experience Life Yoga Studio

For audio downloads, Experience Life Yoga Studio has become my go-to. Their sessions are filmed in serene outdoor settings with simple production (no overstimulating music or effects). The styles range from vigorous vinyasa sequences to restorative practices using bolsters.

The instructors have decades of experience and their verbal cues on alignment and breathwork are second to none. I always feel completely immersed and focused flowing with their audio. They emphasize mindfulness and listening to your body’s needs, especially helpful for beginners. I learn something new from them each time.

Yoga International Audio Classes

For enhancing your knowledge as well as practice, Yoga International has hundreds of high-quality audio offerings taught by senior instructors from diverse backgrounds. Their specialty series like Chair Yoga, Yoga for Athletes, and Therapeutic Yoga provide unique perspectives.

Beyond standard pose flows, they also have insightful series on anatomy, yoga philosophy, Ayurveda, mantras, and more. I like listening to their podcast-style courses during long drives or flights. With their wide array of classes and workshops, your comprehension and training foundation expands tremendously.

Gaia Yoga Audio and Video

Similar to AloMoves, Gaia offers audio yoga classes as well as streaming video content. Their platform brings together world-class teachers in a range of yoga styles and wellness topics. They upload multiple new audio and video sessions daily to keep things interesting.

Along with yoga flow, they have pilates, meditation, breathwork, fitness, and lifestyle audio content. I like their short 10-15 minute standing yoga sequences for quick morning mobility when I’m pressed for time. For rest days, they also have nice restorative and Yin practices. Gaia has been a valuable on-demand resource.

Yoga with Adriene YouTube Channel

If you’re on a budget, Yoga with Adriene on YouTube is completely free and has a library of excellent video classes you can simply listen to for audio-only instruction. Her 75+ yoga playlists cover sequences for full body, core, upper body, anxiety relief, energy boosts, and more.

I practiced her 30-day yoga series when I was just starting out years ago. She’s wonderfully encouraging and explains poses very clearly for beginners. Adriene has new audio-guided practices uploaded every week, so her content never gets old. Her calm, friendly voice makes yoga more accessible.

In closing, incorporating diverse, well-instructed yoga audio into your home practice will keep you motivated, building strength, and progressing safely. Let me know if you try any of my favorites above. And remember, audio-guided yoga makes mind-body wellness possible even with a busy schedule. Get your flow on!
